Winter Warriors Series - Training Race 1

posted 26 Feb 2014, 17:21 by HK Dragons Triathlon Club

Saturday morning saw a band of very hardy triathletes appear out of the darkness and assemble at the South Bay Carpark for the first of the Dragon’s Winter Warriors Training Race Series.

Unfortunately due to some confusion about a Dragons Ride at Tung Chung which was incorrectly sent out to the list, the numbers diminished significantly. This is something that we have learnt from and we will ensure that Dragon’s Rides do not coincide with triathlon events in the future. In spite of the confusion, 8 keen and slightly mad Dragons took to the water at around 7 am to swim around the shark net.

Whilst most doubted that their chests would be able to suck in the air after being constricted by cold water and tight wetsuits, all completed a good swim and ran up to the bikes to challenge each other over 4 laps of around 18 kms on a course that saw a bit of light rain to remind us it was winter!

The run component of just over 2kms was welcomed by all as a way of warming up a bit.

Simon Porter proved that sleep deprivation due to the new twins was not going to hold him back as he stormed past Alan Torrigino on the run and comfortably came home in a time of 1:04:09.

The hot coffee and plentiful muffins were well received by all and the usual Dragons banter and camaraderie was again in evidence.

A big thanks to Vernette, who did a fantastic job as timekeeper on a morning when many were sung in bed.

The next Winter Warriors at South Bay is scheduled for Saturday, March 8. Put this in your diary and join in the fun!
