TTT Race 1 - Results

What a great turn out. Following on from the popular ITT last month, Saturday 29-May saw 10 teams of 4 face off for the 48km Team Time Trial sprint over at Disney.

And a drama filled race it was. A last minute starting line shuffle saw Olivier Bailet joining Team ‘Churn and Burn’ who swapped out key Rider Richard Thornton to Dragons own ‘Team Committee’ as the Committee team had to drop rising star Kate Rutherford due to gearbox problems.

Tensions where high as the pre-race brief concluded and the Teams lined up in their starting order, heading off at just 30 second intervals.

The all ladies team, ‘Team COW’s’ (aka ‘Chicks on Wheels’) where out and away first, setting the pace for everyone to follow.

The 2 loop, 24km course is relatively flat, with some undulations heading out of Disney and along the relief Road to the Gravel Car Park.

The weather remained dry and warm, with little breeze to be felt, meaning that there was no discernable headwind in either direction.

There were a few unfortunate punctures on the course in teams ‘Buckley & Nuun’ and team ‘SA &I’ – but these were efficiently repaired by the teams and they completed the race as a team of four. Less fortunate was the plagued team ‘Shake-n-Bake’ sponsored by a well known chicken seasoning company. They lost star riders Jason Keg to a slow puncture and Turbo Thompson to a pulled heart string. There is now worry in the camp that they may lose their Shake-n-Bake sponsorship!

Team ‘Misfits’ also had trouble on the first lap when Euro-star Xavier Garcia (Chubi to his friends) lost a pedal (of all things) and had to retire.

Winners on the day were Team ‘RMRH’ with a beautifully executed ride, bringing them home in 1:09:15, closely followed by Team ‘Churn & Burn’ and in third place, the team with the ITT Yellow Jersey holder, ‘Holland’s Flying Dutchmen.
