Individual Time Trial - Race 1 Round Up

What a race – those of you who weren’t there – you missed a good one.

20 Dragons joined the line up for the 48km Individual Time Trial from Disney Hotel to the infamous Gravel Car Park (GCP). It was a very windy 2 loops that challenged everyone. Everyone completed the course, well, almost everyone! It transpired after a relatively new and un-tri’d  rider came across the line in a stonking 3rd place (to many a raised eyebrow) that I felt it was my duty to somewhat subtly query the turn-around point he’d used. Suffice to say, he was turning around too soon. I estimate he probably did about 45km, which would have dropped him from 3rd to 16th overall. Still a grand effort, and a real treat for his bike I’m sure, which has been holed up in his car park for many, many months.

Mike Maiers, one of our committee members won the race in a terrific time of 1:14:11 – especially given the blustery conditions. But it was Matt Holland in second place with an equally amazing time of 1.18.35 who was awarded one of the new Dragons ‘Yellow’ Jerseys – which he can keep after the next race…..if no-one beats him. Note his name, check him out and hunt him down. You want that Yellow jersey on your back…..You can make it happen….ride like the wind…!!!

Kate Rutherford, came home first for the ladies and earned herself a ‘Yellow’ jersey too (pics attached) – she’s going to be even harder to beat when she gets a proper Tri-Bike.

See the race results here.

As per usual there was much post race socializing around hot coffee – and everyone agreed it was great race and is looking forward to the next one, which happens to be the Team Time Trial on 29-May, over the same course. Details on that nearer the time.
