Beat the Dragon Results - 24 April

So, Saturday 24-April saw an all new event for us, called ‘Beat the Dragon’ – which was a 5km running race around Blacks Link Road – the aim of the race was to beat Mike Maiers, a normally impossible task unless, that is, you dress him up in a complete panto Dragon outfit, in bright yellow, and have a 2 minute head start over him – hence, ‘Beat the Dragon’.

The day was perfect, not too hot, with 14 keen runners on the start line to see if they, for once, would come across the finish line ahead of Mike.

The starter gave the order and we were off. A break away group of 5 quickly formed as we charged ahead, onwards, faster and faster, not looking behind….on we went…..and then…well, we stopped, stared at each other blankly, until finally someone said, “Erm, I think we’ve missed the turning”  DUH!!!!

We had to back track 900m (up hill I hasten to add) and there we saw a very large well sign posted path – how the hell did 5 of us miss that!?

We picked up the pace once again and didn’t see anyone till the finish line. As it transpires, our Dragon won the race and was the only person to correctly run the course I believe.

13 other runners all ran their own unique course ranging from about 4.2km to 7km – so ‘Mike the Dragon’ remains unbeaten.

The event though was a great laugh, the course is actually good, as is the start/finish venue. We will post it again for another Sunday, and will encourage families to come along as there is a playground there and a BBQ area where we will organize some post race grub-n-stuff.
