In Taiwan there was a big race what was called Iron Man. Iron Man was a popular race, because you would be doing 3 things in one race. There was swimming, biking and running. First it all started early in the morning at 5:00, we started body marking. Body marking is where the staff or volunteers mark you number on your body so that's why it's called body marking. Next came getting ready. Getting ready means you get some time to put on your wet suit or put on sun screen or even take off your clothes. Then Dad introduced me to three people to me and mom. They were called Richard and Paul and Anthony (ANT). Before ANT came I said, "Paul and Richard and Dad looked like a group of triplets." But Richard told me that there were 18 or 20 more Dragons (dragons boat). Next came swimming. For swiming you need to swim two laps what equaled 1.9 km, what is a lot. First the pros went to show everybody the good work they could do. Next, came cycling. Now cycling was the hardest of IronMan. For cycling you have to do 90 km, what is more than swimming. After that came running. Running was the middle amount of the race. I had a great time when I ran down finish line with my dad to get the medal. I thought I had seen the best race ever! |

Hi All,
Please see the attached for the results of the event held last weekend, Saturday, June 18th at Shek O Beach.
Bear in mind that a big dump of rain prevented us from doing the bike leg in Round 3.
Cheers

Check out the results for the first of the TTT. It was a great morning, very little wind which resulted in some fast times. Keep an eye out for the second in the series scheduled for October 29th. |

In trying to do a number of things, we have set up the TTT registration on a site that allows you to register up to 9 team members for the event on Saturday 28/5.
You can easily register team members and you can update your registration if you use the same email address you logged in with and register a password (which will be known ONLY TO YOU.)
Please do not email the dragons and ask you to change your team details - you are the only one who can log in with your password and do this.
The TTT is set up as an "Event" that you need to get a "Ticket" to participate in. Each rider should have a "ticket" but the team captain may choose to "purchase" the four tickets for the team. (There is no charge.)
Please read what we have written on the site about membership and insurance. Essentially, we understand that members will need to have non-members in their teams but they will not be covered by our insurance and may be asked to sign a disclaimer saying that they are participating at their own risk.
Good Luck! |

Well, with clear dry weather, we at last managed to get Race 1 of the Summer Series off the ground with 24 keen athletes, pumped and ready to rock, plus a few new first timers (Welcome).
The familiar sound of the starters horn echoed across the vacant beach as everyone charged in to calm warm waters for the 300m swim.
Clearly everyone was keen to have a good race as there were some solid swim times before they hit the bikes for the two loop, 8km ride, with the surprisingly challenging ride over to Big Wave bay. And then it was on with the trainers for the 2km dash out and back to the finish line.
A great first heat, with some stonking finishing times, but it seems the first of the 3 heats had taken its toll and Heat 2 started with only about 50% of the field. A strong finisher in heat 2 was our youngest member, 10 year old Jack, who will soon be whipping his dads A…..’hem…..backside!
The last heat saw most people back at it, whilst a few opted out having been challenged enough by the first two heats. Race results are on the link here so you can see you splits and start number crunching and of course compare yourself to last year. But don’t be too harsh on yourselves, as it is the first race of the season and hopefully as the season progresses you’ll see your times come down and be able to see in which discipline you are making improvements. Thanks to all those that helped Marshal or support between races. A personal apology to all of you for not bringing the sausages and coffee, I’ve had my wrist slapped and I will ensure you are all fed and caffined up after the next race – and talking of which, check out the annual race calendar on the web site (under the picture of ‘Member of the Month’) We will relocate it at some point to somewhere more sensible J
So, next weekend is the 48km Team Time Trial – we had about 15 teams last year, so get talking to your mates and get a team together. You can do me a great favour by registering your team directly on our web site (there is no fee – it’s a free race) and the link is here If you are having trouble finding members or you’re a single rider looking for a team, email Drilly at the club info email address and I’ll see what I can do for you. I’m not a dating agency, so make best endevours first before pinging me – cheers.
A quick note on safety
Whilst the club does try and provide Marshals, as we did at today’s race for the mini-roundabout at the bottom of Shek-O hill, it is still everybody’s responsibility to race safely.
Unfortunately one of our riders today collided with a car in the Big Wave Bay car park. The car pulled out and 2 of the 3 riders managed to swerve either side but unfortunately the 3rd had no room to maneuver. There was no injury, but the rider was of course well shaken up and retired from the rest of the heats.
Additionally a report has come in from a Shek O resident that a Dragon "cut the village roundabout round the wrong way, and came flying round the corner on the wrong side of the road almost causing a traffic accident"
Please let us all race safe and not jeopardize our insurance. |
