Great Morning for SSTR1 2018

posted 11 May 2018, 22:15 by HK Dragons Triathlon Club
After a week of threatening thunderstorms and monsoonal winds, it was no surprise that members were wanting to check the abandonment due to poor weather policy for the first Dragons Summer Series Tri of 2018. They need not have bothered as A. We never cancel unless it is dangerous to even travel to Shek O Beach and B. The morning at the beach was perfect for the event.

Matthew Pears put his stamp on this event again from the outset ensuring Paul Wright, Ryan Kemp and Richard Greaves had to stretch to stay in the hunt whilst the rest of the mere mortals battled it out further down the field.

The 3 rounds of the Super Sprint format seems like it suits a good number of members with a range of abilities. We had 21 signed on for this morning although there was some "no-shows" for reasons unknown at time of writing. If rumours are to be believed, we had 3 people doing their first ever triathlon this morning in Floris Holdrinet, Anna Simpson and Trevor Parker who wrote that it was his first event in Hong Kong so probably not first Tri. Special mention also to Yvonne McMahon who took part in her first Triathlon in 12 years!

Something to note for the future. The village continues to be busy in Shek O and this is only going to increase as the Summer heats up. We moved these events to 7:30am to accommodate some members who wanted to catch ferries across from Discovery Bay. As they appear to be AWOL at the moment 😀, we suggest that it might be better to shift the next Summer Series Training Race to 7:00am and maybe even go to 6:30am as the hotter weather arrives. Any and all comments on this change gratefully received via email  or via the chat on WhatsApp.

See you all at the next Summer Series Training Race in Shek O on June 9 or at the Race to Enlightenment next Saturday.
