Dragons Summer Series Training Race 5 Results

posted 17 Sep 2011, 22:47 by HK Dragons Triathlon Club
We had another great turnout for the penultimate race in the summer series. And once again there were a number of new faces amongst the regulars. So from the committee and all the members - welcome to the Dragons.

So with 28 lined up on the Shek-O beach as the starters horn blared to get the first heat under way. Conditions were very good, with a relatively calm sea, moderate temperature and humidity. It was obvious from the start that the race was on for first and second between Mark Weis and Nick Dargan, as they closely battled every leg of every heat. But the racing wasn't just for the first two places, as down the entire field racers were jostling with each other, as they chased hard the person in front of them, with one eye behind as a pursuer looking for that extra place was never far behind. All in all, it was a great day of competition and racing and alot of fun for everyone (although perhaps fun wasn't the word many would use when in the middle of a race).
The post race sausages, muffins and coffee were all well recieved and adds to the social element of the event which is all part and parcel of the Dragons - cos that's how we roll.
A huge thanks to our volunteer marshalls, who helped out today, guarding the roundabout at the bottom of Shek-O hill and helping with the tricky job of time keeping.

A final note. The season is far from over and we still have Dragons events and races ahead of us.
24-Sep is the Individual Time Trial (ITT) from Disney Hotel car park - aim to be there at 6am. Its free entry and the course is a 2x24km loop (48km) of good, flat and fast roads.
And of course there is the highly desirable Dragons yellow jersey up for grabs.

9-Oct is the HK Tri Association triathlon at Plover cover - The Dragons usually do very well with a Dragon (or two) in the top 3 slots in all age Groups from 30-34 upwards. Look out for the Dragons marquee when you cross the finish line, we'll have drinks, food, shade and other stuff going on.
Also on 9-Oct you will have seen the flyer for our 'Almost end of season party' - This is always a great party, and we all look forward to seeing you there - so sign up today.

And we still have the last of the summer series race to be held on 15-Oct, as well as the Team Time Trial (TTT) in late Oct, followed by the more challanging pre-Phuket event in early Nov, a must for anyone doing Phuket this year.

So, keep dialed-in to what the Dragons are doing - safe training everyone.
