Almost 40 folk turned up for Sunday's second
Dragon's Training session. A great turn out on a very hot day.
As usual, arguably Hkg's No
1 Age grouper, Mike Maiers having got his swim together, blasted the course to
finish the bike in equal first with the unfortunate recent consistent DNFer
Mike Bucek. When Mike B again dropped out of the run due to his recurring calf
injury, it left Mike with a fairly easy win over a rapidly improving newbie
Dane Cantwell with ex HKG Squad Member Luke Wimbush a close third. Warren S assumably hurting in the run took
fourth over our hard working Dragons Race organizer Paul Mcmahon who has
obviously been a bit lax in the swim training.
Veteran swimmer/runner
Jesse Chang was a very reluctant DNF due to his shoes disappearing during the
bike leg, which left the Vets in the capable hands of Thai Based John Douma who
put in a 6th fastest run of the day somewhat handicapped by one of
the slowest swims.
There was an unusual entry
from the Dutch market who produced a Team that included the slowest swim and
fastest bike of the day to add interest to the event. Also several newbies out
there all added to the mixture. And the ex rugby playing Brownlee father and
son continued their rivalry with son taking this one.
The ladies meanwhile, had a
very interesting competition which saw Paul Ferrick take out first place in her
first outing since the Brazilian IM. Claire Chapman, on a borrowed bike and
Vangie Wimbush both had trouble with directions on the bike but were not
disqualified in the spirit of involvement that the Dragons are trying to
encourage.
Yours truly (Bikeman) DNF
with the second puncture in his racing life to let Brian Goldberg and Nevin
Price fight it out for the envied last place with Brian's 6 min faster
swim/bike just enough to hold off
Nevin's 5 ½ min faster run by 3 seconds.
Bikeman will be back to
claim his rightful last placing at next one so, Brian and Nevin, BEWARE!!
Would like to finish by
offering serious thanks to Paul, Yvonne, Mike and the rest of the crazy
officials who gave up their Sunday morning in bed to assist a bunch of loopy
headcases in their attempts to die of heatstroke/exhaustion!!
