Wow! I am amazed at the great response from Dragon's volunteering to assist this Sunday morning. This is a great sign for the health of the club! It is also going to make for some crowded and noisy tables at the Shek O cafe when we lay on the fabulous spread of bacon and eggs on sweet, thick white bread and condensed milk coffee for the helpers . Seriously you are all welcome to join us for brekky as a small token of thanks for making the race safer for all Dragons.
Because there are a lot of first timers this race, you may not be aware of the crazy parking situation at Shek O beach. Although there are probably in excess of 60 car bays at the Shek O beach car park, you will find that for some reason, locals are allowed to park in them 24/7 which means that there are effectively around 10. You can expect that these will probably be gone should you arrive after 6.45am. This leaves you the following choices. 1. Bring someone who can sit in the car and move it when the police arrive as they do every Sunday. 2. Drop your gear off and drive down to Big Wave Bay where there is roadside parking. You can warm up by rinding back the 1.5k on your bike. 3. Forget the car and share a van grab or taxi. 4. Be a real Triathlete and ride to Shek O!
Whatever you choose to do, don't say that you have not been warned!
Finally I am in cycling heaven after following Jason Baran's advice about downloading the TdF Bit Torrents from this site:http://www.mininova.org/search/?search=tour+france for those of you who are now suggesting that I am a geek and saying Bit what?? Here is some advice from Dragon David Gibb about how to get tour coverage on your computer easily.
"There is a website that has a live video/audio stream for Le Tour. It can be a
bit stop start at times but can provide the fix that HK television
cannot. http://www.cyclingfans.com
Best bet is to load the Eurosport (English version) audio through
Realplayer and the NOS video through Windows Media Player and kill the sound,
unless you speak French.
Many are also aware that the White Stag in Wan Chai broadcasts the Tour live via Zimbabwe Satellite each evening. You will find a lot of Dragons looking very bleary eyed down there most nights. May even get down to see Stage 12 Montpellier to Castres on Friday evening myself.
Cheers
