GETTING TO SUBIC BAY
FREEPORT:
Subic is accessible by land travel from
Metro Manila. It is 130 kms from the Ninoy Aquino
International Airport in Metro
Manila and travel time is about 2½ hours. There are also direct international
flights from Chinese Taipei, Korea, Kuala
Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Singapore and from other cities to
Clark Special Economic Zone which is about one-and-a half hour drive to Subic
Bay Freeport. Certain chartered flights also land directly to Subic Bay
Freeport.
RACE
DISTANCES:
O2 : Twice the Olympic
Distance - 3km swim, 80km bike, 20km run
Sprint Distance - 1km
swim, 24km bike, 5km run (for Junior 14~19, Adults 20 yrs old or
older)
RACE
COURSE:
Swim:
Distance: 1 km per
loop (O2- 3 loops, Sprint- 1 loop). Triangular shaped swim
course.
Description: Clockwise
direction of swim with 10 meters beach run after the 1st and
2nd loop. The swim course will be marked with buoy lines. Kayaks will
be deployed to guide some of the swimmers or provide safety assistance. Those in
need may hold on to a kayak or onto the buoy line to rest but not to progress
forward. The distance from swim exit to transition is 30 meters. Shower is
provided on the way to the transition area.
Bike:
O2 distance: 80km, 2
loops, out and back, over a 20km stretch. About 70% of the course is winding and
rolling.
Junior & Adult
Sprint distance 24 km loop (2 loops). No water/aid station for the sprint
distance.
Wheel
Drop:
2 points will be
designated: at the entrance of Naval Magazine (around midway of the 20-km
stretch) and near the transition area 2
Aid
Station
Provided with water,
ice and Gatorade. medical assistance, and radio communications. Will be located
at the entrance of the naval magazine, near the mid-point of the 20-km stretch
of the bike course. Two water stations along the of run course. Participants
have the option to deposit their special-needs items (energy drink, gel,
medicine, etc) with the race organizers prior to race day, and such will be duly
marked with the race number and deposited at the designated aid
stations.
Direction: Clockwise,
keep right. Generally flat. From transition 2, triathletes climb Dumuk Bridge at the start of the run to cross
over to other side. After completion of required loops, triathletes will turn
right at Espiritu St, right again at Dewey St and right again at Rojas St where
the finish line is. A shower of water for cooling will be provided by SBMA Fire
Department near Pancake House. Drinking water, ice and Gatorade will be
available at the 2 aid stations.
Finish
Line & Awarding :
The finish line will
be located at the center of Rojas St which is between Legenda's El Centro and Courtyard
Inn. The post-race lunch and awarding will be held in El Centro air-conditioned
tent.
BASIC RACE
RULES:
ITU Competition rules
for long distance race shall apply. No drafting on the bike leg. Several Draft
Busters (DB) in motorbikes will patrol the bike route. 1st Violation: Warning.
The DB will verbally inform the rider to back off. His number will be noted.
2nd Violation: Stop & Mark. The rider will be instructed to stop at the side
of the road for 30 seconds. His race number bib will be marked with a "/" in red
marking pen. 3rd Violation: Stop, Mark & Penalty. The ride will be
instructed to stop for 30 seconds. His number bib will be marked again to
complete the "X" mark. Upon reaching T2, he will be required to stay in the
designated penalty box in T2 for 5 minutes. Unsafe and un-sportsmanship conduct
may be subject to disqualification (DQ). Ignoring or disobeying the DB's
instructor, or fighting with the DB is subject to outright disqualification. For

competition, each relay team will be composed of 2 or 3 members, with each
member completing one or two sports discipline. Tap-off will be at designated
spot in the transition area.
Cut off time for this
race is 8½ hours.
