Dragons have been working busily in the background over the last couple of days to verify the status of our insurance for the upcoming race season.
We have taken advice telling us that we are holding the race series that we have at Shek O beach as a "Training Series" to prepare our athletes for events like Bintan, Phuket and even the HK Tri Association ITU in September, should the association solve the problems associated with trying to get road closure for sporting events in Hong Kong. In this way, all of our members are covered by insurance which the club takes out on behalf of its members because they are part of a recognised group training for a sporting event.
What this means for triathletes who are reading this without having paid or renewed their membership for the 2007 season is that you cannot race unless you shell out the $300 membership which, if you are an expat, you are probably aware is less than the cost of a single event in most parts of the world.
The other thing that you need to be aware of is that the insurers will not cover a training group of more than 50 out training together so this is the limit of our events. Given that there was a group of around 35 presenting for our meet and greet event on May 6th, I would not be hesitating in getting your entry in if you want to compete in one or more of the series races.
If you are not a member, you can get the application from the form that is on the website. Once you have membership which, by the way, will be confirmed by a card that you can collect at the first race or it will be mailed to the address on the form, (they have only just been printed) you can complete the series application form also on the website or here http://hktriclub.com/cm/content/view/35/45/
I hope to see you out on the course.
Regards
Paul
on behalf of the Dragon's Committee.
