Swimming Update for June Print E-mail
Dear Swimmers
Well done to all those who participated in the Deep Water Bay Ocean Swim on Thursday 24 and to those of you that made the journey to the Bintan Triathlon over the weekend.

Now let's get back to business in the pool....

* 8 Sessions only as we are planning to become involved in a much bigger triathlon programme to be based at Sandy Bay later this summer.

We have upped the ante slightly, focusing a bit more on what you will be doing at the new program base in Sandy Bay (see below).  To date, we have been focusing largely on technique as we have only been able to offer 1 session a week and face it, most of you need technique advice above and beyond anything else - trust me, we see you swimming.  Now, we'll be doing a bit more of the higher intensity stuff and teaching you how to actually improve swim times based on a barrage of interval work (still working on technique though).  This will mean you will actually have to read a pace clock - it really isn't that hard! Gradually increasing your sessions in the pool and with the added intensity of some of the workouts will help prepare you for the new program in Sandy Bay.

Amid further yet necessary delays, the start of the full triathlon training program at the Institute of Human Performance facility in Sandy Bay, Pokfulam, is now looking to commence in July 2007.  As many of the triathlon community will be travelling in the summer, it is envisaged that during July and possibly August, the programme will be run with 4 - 5 sessions per week on a introductory basis (pay as you go).  Come September, the program will be in full-swing and attendance to any training session will be on a membership basis only.  Access to facilities and triathlon training program will require an IHP Tri Club photo ID card.  Sandy Bay is conveniently located in Pokfulam near the Cyberport, only a 10 -15 mins drive from IFC in Central or 10 mins drive from our current location at SIS. The IHP Stanley Ho Sports Centre is a fabulous facility, incorporating a 50m Olympic  pool, a 400m all weather track, a brand new fully equipped weight room and a soon to be developed testing laboratory - all you could wish for as an athlete!

The strength of this program, which will be open to all triathletes / runners / cyclists / swimmer/ multi-sport athletes regardless of club affiliation, is that participants will benefit from the knowledge of an elite team of coaches (each specialising in a specific discipline). The goal being to bring a comprehensive triathlon programme to both recreational and competitive athletes within the community, providing a positive group environment. With up to 10 sessions on offer per week (once full program is in full-swing), participants will be able to benefit from season planning, frequent testing, periodisation training and constant technical critique.    Sessions will take place both in the mornings and evenings with a long training day on Saturday mornings.  Registration forms and info via the website will be posted shortly as soon as all the details have been confirmed.
Swimmingly,
AM & Fen Southside Masters Swimming
