Hi all!

18 month resident on the dark side, dragons member but yet to make the starting line and desperate for some proper road cycling. Not prepared to chance the major freeways again, so any groups out there that meet on a Saturday mornings early, and any ideas on transport? Public transport does not seem to be cycle friendly.

Hi Mitch,

Not sure what part of the Dark Side you are on but there is great riding to be had there. I have just crossed the harbour after 3 years on that side. Not sure about Saturday mornings as this is considered work time by many. There is a group that sometimes meets and travels by car to the Hong Kong yacht club and rides from there. Check with Greg Murray on 63464483 to see if there is one going some time soon. As I am no longer going, there should be room in a car.
You need to get out to the Science Park in Tai Po on a Tuesday or Thursday night for some of the best cycling that you can do in Hong Kong. It is loops of a 4.5k track that maintains around 40kph for most of the last hour (up to 9.00pm). Some great attacking off the front etc. If you can mix it with these guys you will be doing well!
You also have the Dai Laam each Sunday morning starting at 6.30am from Shatin Rowing club. More details here: http://www.cmscycling.com/en_training.html
You could easily work it to do some of the Dai Laam. The site is a bit out of date. The rest point is now in Tai Mei Tuk where you can join the group for breakfast at around 9.30am.
Good Luck!
Paul

Many thanks, sounds good although the pace may be alittle hot at this stage. The real challenge is getting to Tai Po, Shatin, Tung Chung et al using public transport. Buses are not willing, and MTR is a bit hit and miss.
