Ironman China Media Release 2 June 2008
Registration for 2009 Ironman China and Ironman 70.3 China is now open. The races will be held again in Haikou, Hainan Island on April 19th 2009.
Ironman China and Ironman 70.3 China, both presented by K-Swiss, are staged on the same day and on the same race course. With a race date a good six months before the World Championships, the timing of these races is perfect for those hoping to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona or Clearwater.
Slight changes will be made to the 2008 course that received rave notices from competitors. The course took athletes to middle earth and back, with a unique race experience of almost time traveling through old and new China on race day. A number of new roads have opened since last years race allowing us more and better bike course options, said Event Director, Murphy Reinschreiber. We listened carefully to athlete input after the 2008 race and we certainly wont mess with the highlight bits including the village roads and finish line. In addition to changes on the bike course we are also exploring improvements to the run course and a new swim venue.
To accommodate the 70.3 race, the swim and bike courses will continue to be two-loop designs. Like the 2008 course, the bike course will pass through typical, old world farming villages as well as along empty and brand new four lane highways. The run course will mix the excitement of running through a major city with the greenery of coastal and park paths.
With this double date race, Ironman China has something for competitors at all stages in their triathlon career. The cultural diversity extends from the race course to the participants themselves, attracting competitors from 40 countries in its first year.
Register now to be a part of the unique Ironman China experience in 2009.
