How are these clubs different? 2008/07/25 16:28 Karma: 0&nbsp&nbsp
I recently moved back to HK after living in the states for a couple years. I'm a beginner in triathlon, and I'd like to continue my training and improve my skills in HK. I see that besides HK Dragon Triathlon Club, there are also HKTriA and IHP Triathlon training program. Would like to see if anyone knows which one is more beginner-friendly, and can help me leverage my training?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Angelina,
Good question and one that we are asking ourselves a lot at the moment
Basically the Dragons is a low-key club that really just exists so that triathletes who can come together for a well organised race every month or so and mix with other like minded people. We do have the running group on a Thursday but we do not employ coaches or arrange group rides or swims. We leave it up to the membership to work it out amongst themselves or join the SIR Cycling groups for rides and one of the other groups for swims.
IHP and HKTriA both employ coaches as do clubs like Sonic. If you can make it to the venues that these guys use easily with your schedule then they will work well for you but you will need to pay a monthly fee.

BTW, we had a girl who came down on the weekend for her first tri and is desperate to find other newbie tri girls to ride with. If you are interested reply and I will put you two in touch.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks Paul for the IHP heads up. Please let any new members know that we have 2 new rookie programs starting:

1. Tribabes - a 10 week beginner training program just for the ladies. Coached by the infamous Joss Pollock with guest appearances from yours truly and Fen. Its an ideal program for women who are keen to get going in multi-sport and want to do so in a sociable and motivating environment. Ladies can also opt to challenge themselves and enter super sprint or sprint distance at HK Tri in November. Starts Monday 8th Sep. Savings when mates sign up together.

2. Try a Tri - basically exactly the same thing but open to whomever and a bit more flexible on program duration. Perfect for all those guys who have made a bet late on Friday night to do a race - a bit of training may see them make it more of a reality! The sooner they sign up, the more training they'll get under their belts for HK tri or any of your races.

All info on our site: www.hku.hk/ihp/triathlon.

Cheers!
